All Points Bulletin – Programming Changes

Hello all, I have some good news. I have a jobbie-job.

Well, actually, the truth is that this blog has done exactly what I’d hoped it would do, which is to fool someone into thinking I should actually be paid to write like this. I’m currently freelancing an article and helping a local holistic physician write content for her diet and nutrition website. I’ll be sure and keep all of you updated when you can see my work elsewhere.

So after 8 months of Monday – Friday postings, I’m taking it down a notch. I’ll be posting longer pieces on Tuesdays and a recipe or two on Thursdays. Don’t cry, boo. This is a good thing.

I’m looking forward to the Tuesday postings. I have a long list of topics I haven’t had the time or energy to delve into, and I think this will give me the chance to really get in there and explore. Think of it as more quality, less quantity. Less filling, tastes great.

This actually evolves naturally from a bit of blog self-searching. When the whole Stephan Guyenet vs. Gary Taubes tussle first emerged from the 2011 Ancestral Health Symposium, I had some ideas about it, mostly in favor of Taubes. But then I realized pretty quickly that people talking about the nitty-gritty of this stuff (think Kurt Harris, Chris Kresser, etc.) are super smarty-pants, they’re way out of my league, and this ain’t my fight. So then, what the hell was I doing?

I decided I enjoy a more magazine tone. I like talking about big ideas in a way that makes sense to everyone and I like to be entertaining about it. I don’t want to be just another blog rehashing the latest diet study or talking about how stupid the USDA food pyramid is. I’m not trying to be anyone’s diet guru and I don’t want anyone thinking I’m an expert about anything. I’m learning too, but I like to share what I learn. So what do I have to offer that someone else can’t or doesn’t provide?

I’m classically trained, y’all. I don’t know if you know that—I’m a poet. So I’m hoping to give some of these topics the literary treatment and to frame them in more of an essay format. I’m also hoping to provide the perspective of mindfulness, of being authentic with ourselves. I think examining the food we put in our mouths everyday is fertile territory for better understanding ourselves and our culture. And I prefer not to flinch. But I also reserve the right to have fun and be a total goofball.

If remembering to stop by every T and Th is too much to ask of you right now, the best way to keep in touch is to either sign up for email delivery (form in the sidebar), follow me on Twitter @PaleoPeriodical, or “like” The Paleo Periodical on Facebook. You’ll be notified of every new post.

A big thank you to everyone who’s made it thus far. I hope you’ll continue with me, it’s only gonna get more interesting around here.
